Call For Experts: Gavi Vaccine Investment Strategy (Vis) Steering Committee Open For Applications (Deadline: 28 September 2022)

Gavi has launched a call for expressions of interest to identify members for the Vaccine Investment Strategy (VIS) Steering Committee. The Steering Committee will be convened to provide expert advice, strategic guidance, and oversight to the next VIS. This is Gavi’s evidence-driven process for identifying new and under-used vaccines of the highest importance to Gavi-supported countries and inform on options for future investments. The VIS takes place every 5 years. The next VIS will kick off later this year, with multiple decision steps culminating in final investment case decisions taken by the Gavi Board in June 2024.

The deadline to receive expressions of interest is 28 September 2022.

Ukcdr & Essence Guidance Document On Equitable Research Partnerships + Virtual Event 26 September

The UK Collaborative on Development Research (UKCDR) & ESSENCE on Health Research published a good practice document entitled ‘Four Approaches to Supporting Equitable Research Partnerships’. This guidance document lays out four interconnected approaches to supporting equitable research partnerships:

  • Support the research partnership ecosystem
  • Strengthen research relationships and research systems
  • Budget for partnership building
  • Implement processes and procedures that sustain partnerships
Recognising the need for practical interventions to promote equity and restore balance in research partnerships, the guidance provides concrete recommendations for overcoming them.

In the guidance document, the EDCTP-funded African coaLition for Epidemic Research, Response and Training (ALERRT) and Pan-African Network for Rapid Research, Response, Relief and Preparedness for Infectious Disease Epidemics (PANDORA-ID-NET) networks are highlighted as best examples of research consortia to build equitable decision-making.

Join UKCDR & ESSENCE at the virtual event ‘The role of funders in enabling equitable research partnerships for development’ for a dynamic discussion with global funders and to learn more about the new guidance on approaches to supporting equitable partnerships. The event will be held at the Science Summit at United Nations General Assembly 77 (UNGA77) on 26 September 2022 at 9:00 EDT/10:00 CEST/14:00 BST.
